we've learned a bit more about the perpetrator,

whom i will not dignify by naming him...

and his "motivations".

i can't get a guy like that,

the degree of fanaticism is beyond me.

i can only turn my attention towards the victims

and those left behind.

only those,

and it doesn't matter what their creed/faith/race/ nationality is,

who have lost their loved ones

at the point of a gun or bombing can know what it feels like.

Oklahoma City remembers.

New York city remembers.
London remembers.

Gaza remembers.

Montreal remembers also.

when a single individual or a handful decide of the fate of others,

only to cause chaos?

appalling.

i'm surprised there are no piercings as well...

i find this picture a bit odd,
but there's no telling
how people would deal with death.
i've worked many years at the delivery room,
and when there is a death,
we take a picture of the dead baby,
so the parents can deal with the mourning process.
if they don't take it right away,
it stays in their file...
just in case.
to lose a child,
be it a newborn,
must be devastating.
people always have such expectations...

is it realistic to think we can save the planet?
i feel that as long as mankind exists,
we'll be the bane of this planet
and run it dry 'till it's too late.
there's been some changes in the mentality of individuals.
some have modified their habits
to reduce their carbon footprint,
but not enough, yet...
and not enough of those truly aware of the problems
are part of our political elite,
or in the industry and commerce
that sustain our societies.
not enough...
when will there be enough of them
to actually gear us in the right direction?
it's a long process
and the younger generation seems more conscious
of those changes that need to be made.
but they have to grow up,
keep their ideals
and become part of those leaders
that can make a difference.

when i think that,
only this week,
there are some instances that wish to revoke the ban
on whale hunting...
that is simply disgusting.
there are no aspect of this world that is spared.
too many offences we commit daily against the planet.
time for self-introspection,
to closely examine the many choices we make daily,
and realize the impact we have on this world.
it is the only one we've got.
one would think
we'd be more careful...
nah,
we're selfish that way.
we expect others to do the right thing,
thinking we don't make much difference in our actions,
and inactions...
we'll pay for our apathy in the long run.
i empathise with the future generations
that will have to live in the world we've created.
that's if we leave anything at all...

eartday is now 40 years-old.
a great idea,
but still only an idea,
as it's not yet become the ideal
it was meant to be.
a whole lot remains to be done,
not to restore the planet,
and stop the madness,
but merely to slow down the damages we're causing.
i am neither an alarmist nor a pessimist.
i'm just a realist.
humans are a nuisance here.
and the worse has not been done yet.
the sheer number of our population is a threat to this planet.
it will come to a point where the planet cannot sustain all of us
and we'll fight for sheer survival.
it has already begun...

where you see us in our daily routine,

from venerable in 1978
to beatified in 1982

not bad!!!

sure,
he was not a martyr,
as he was not empalled, eviscirated, burnt and dismembered
as many other saints from past centuries...
but he did live an exemplary life,
serving his community in all humility.
he may have been as human as the next guy,
what with his temper,
apparently...
but he had a sense of duty
one can only admire.

many have attributed miracles to him
but the vatican is reticent to fall for this...
understandably.
two have been accepted by the church so far.

let's just respect the man's work in his lifetime
and the legacy he's left us,
the St-JOSEPH ORATORY of the MOUNT-ROYAL,
dedicated to St-Joseph.

decades ago,
i went there for a memorial service for my maternal grand-mother,
a devout catholic.
heck!!
she was an ex-nun!!!!
and she remained an inspiration in her village,
even as a civilian.
she was actually the only one in the family
i felt i could relate to,
as she was always willing to listen.
the only topic you couldn't discuss with her
was politics and especially the damn tories!!!
good girl!!!
if she looks over my shoulder as i write this,
she must have a giggle
as politics must mean nothing to her NOW...

back to the main topic,
the ORATORY.
i must admit that,
it may be of the material world,
but the place does impose itself upon you,
and moves you into a spiritual state,
whatever works for you.
this is a shrine for many,
a piece of heritage for most.
talk about a lifetime achievement!!!

how much do you want to live?
is life something you hold on to dearly?
personally,
i'm always "ready to go"...
suicidal thoughts are ever present
and have reached their peak every now and then across my life;
last time was summer '09...
i seem to have no endurance for life itself.
everything feels like a burden and ever so pointless.
and yet,
i am still here.
i surprise myself,
as i never thought i'd ever reach 40,
and i am now nearing 50...
my first attempt was when i was about eight years old...
i stabbed myself,
superficially,
not knowing yet what i know now about anatomy.
i would have gotten more ribs than heart...
just a desperate feeling that life meant nothing to me.
and i still feel the same,
more or less.
yes,
i've seen someone for a while,
and it helped for a while...
but how much is too much?
when do you say it's enough
and call it quit?
christians say that you get from god the cross you can bear.
what if god overestimated your strenght
or your willingness to go through the pain?
i've dealt professionally with patients who were suicidal.
they found me helpful,
most likely because i could understand them the most,
and always kept it honest.
actually,
there is one girl that i've always wondered about...
i never saw her again because...
she found her way out of this
and managed to have herself a decent life;
or has she committed suicide
and ended up at the coroner's office???
i'm hoping for her sake she found her way out.
i'd like that.
strangely,
i'm always more hopeful for others than for myself.
i always have "a plan"....
the one thing doctors fear the most:
THE PLAN!!!!
(of course i wouldn't tell them. i know that much...)
if only they knew,
they would keep me in a padded room...
in the meantime,
i just go on with my daily life,
wondering why it still goes on.
as i'm aging,
i've experienced various symptoms and yet,
i leave them undiagnosed,
letting them run their course.
anyway,
i'm used to hear doctors say that
"it's all in my head"....
for the few times i see them,
they could be a tad more receptive...
fuck them!!!
i am surrounded by them,
but i like them not.
very rarely have i ever found one to be respectful of my person,
not just another damn number they can ca$h in....
so,
my hold unto life is barely more than tenuous
and i can honestly say
that those that survive have courage.
those that die have also courage.
the courage of desperation
and one never knows where this will take one.
in life as in death,
it is a sinuous road
where no one can see too far ahead.
should you ever come across someone in distress,
never be dismissive.
that'd be too easy.
even if you feel inadequate,
just listen.
if they feel you're open,
they might open up as well.
just listen.
they might bounce off a few ideas,
why they feel this way.
just listen.
it won't kill you.
but if you don't listen,
it might kill them
is that enough of a guilt trip for you.?
now,
just watch the damn video...
that won't kill you either.

i'm watching a documentary on tv
about supernatural phenomenoms,
mostly dangerous ones,
even deadly.
i have no such knowledge.
i've often had "deja-vu",
conversations already had,
feeling almost rehearsed,
just going though the motions
as i was reliving situations already experienced...
but the one that freaked me out the most [so to speak]
goes back to 1973.
my grandpa had passed in july of that year.
i had gone to his funerals
and that was my first experience as far as death was concerned.
months later,
i woke up one morning,
at first light,
unable to move,
and yet,
not especially concerned about it,
my bedroom door that i always kept closed,
suddenly started to open,
by a few inches,
very slowly but inexorably.
i just kept staring at the door
and the gap becoming more and more apparent.
i felt frightened for a minute,
but only for a minute,
as i somehow thought this was my grandpa
and felt reassured
that no harm would come to me.
a simple visit to make sure i was alright.
i stared for a long time
until i decide it was safe to get up.
i went in the kitchen
and made breakfast.
my mom got up
and i told her about my experience.
she seemed nonplussed,
merely mentionning
that i was my grandpa's favorite????
really
why???
i rarely saw him....
distance makes the heart grow fonder,
they say....
but we were both aries,
the same temper,
the same extravangant self.
maybe....
i liked him?
apparently,
it was mutual.

it would appear MISERY has elected permanent residence in HAITI.
not only this people has had to contend with decades of political turmoils,
and also a struggling economy,
being amongst the poorest countries of this planet,
now mother nature has just delivered them another blow:
an earthquake!!
7, on the richter scale.
definitely nothing lucky about this "7"...

habitations lay in ruins
while others are so damaged and unstable,
it is hazzardous to enter,
let alone live there,
throwing more people on the streets of the capital.
communications are difficult,
water is not as accessible
and risk of contamination is rampant.
people are buried beneath the rubble,
dead and alive alike,
while people are looking for survivors.
it is a dire situation,
a sad one.
how much more can these people take?????

a people who,
even in its better days,
needs help from the rest of the international community
just to cope.
how can one describe their current situation?
there are no words,
simply none...
it's like adding insult to injurie.

please contact your local red cross chapter to donate.
i know i will.
i will get off my privileged ass
and donate some money.

this is the very least i can do.
my heart goes out to the haitian people.

from the governor general,
meaning the government will be in session only on march 3rd...

the government now stands at a standstill.
and for what?!?
only stephen knows,
and he won't tell.
that's the whole point,
isn't it?!?
even though surveys "claim" people would re-elect him

canadian politics are at an all-time low.
what a boring and frustrating situation we have now.
copenhagen was just an example
of how inefficient his government is,

following the latest terrorist attempt
involving a plane,
major international airports which hadn't already done so,
will now have to implement into their security organisation
a body scanner.
many canadian airports will do so.
some may find the idea offensive and intrusive,
but think of it this way.
when you go to the hospital,
the medical personnel sees you at your most intimate,
and yet,
it is part of our code of conduct
to exclude any sexuality from these situation.
i expect the security personnel manning those machines
will be asked to do the same.
anyway,
while they're busy looking for suspicious objects,
i doubt they'll have the time to notice the nakedness itself.
anyway,
this type of imaging is not very flattering...

if chantal daigle was unwise enough

to get involved romantically

with jean-guy tremblay,

a first class asshole,

back in 1988;

she was smart enough,

when she found out she was pregnant,

to want an abortion,

so to be ridden of the presence of tremblay.

he tried,

via a court injunction,

to keep her from having said abortion,

pushing the issue up to the supreme court.

but chantal hadn't said her last word,

as she got an abortion

even before the ruling of the supreme court,

which ruled in her favor,

fortunately for her.

but this became a milestone

for women's rights in canada,

as it was declared women had the right

to do what they wanted/needed for their body.

tremblay since then has proven to be a violent man,

assaulting other women he got involved with since then,

& has appeared in front of various judges in this country,

he's been declared a sexual delinquant

& has done time.

now,

do you think chantal feels good about the decision she took,

back in 1989?!?

of course she must!!!

she must be so relieved,

& we can all understand her motivation.

she has the right to a happy life,

one that didn't include tremblay...

but i'm sure

she never expected her lovelife to make headlines...

laura ling & euna lee will finally be sleeping home,

reunited with their families.

KILLING TWO SEALS WITH ONE STONE?!?

in canadian news this week?!?

the coroner's report about taser guns is in,

& the RCMP isn't too thrilled about it.

next,

the european union has banned

all products derived from seal hunting.

i say we've got two problems

which could mutually benefit each other.

it's all a matter of public image.

use the taser guns to kill the seals

instead of bludgeoning them to death with a club.

it will be less graphic

& taser guns will appear merciful.

& if seals can be killed more...gently,

europeans sensibilities may be put to rest

if the whole process is less bloody.

& voila!!

how's that for a solution?

& it didn't cost anyone

an arm & a leg

[for a change...]

to fill in this report.

every generation seems to have its favorite date of impending doom.

it looks like we humans thrive on drama

& the precarity of our existence...

it would be boring otherwise,

wouldn't it?!?

so,

hollywood is [as usual] jumping on this wagon

with "2012",

to give you a preview of what to expect, sort of...

should anything actually happen,

i doubt very much

it would look as exciting as the movie,

but why not be entertained

by the concept of our own demise...

just how many disasters

can one survive?

i might actually check this one out,

given who's involved in this project...

surely the mayans had no idea

the commotion they'd be causing with their damn calendar...

WORLD HUNGER, FOOD FOR THOUGHTS

hunger has a face.

one we dare not look at too often,

but it is ever present

as hundreds of millions of people worlwide

suffer from starvation.

ferdinand dimadura had presented at

the 2006 berlin international film festival

a short film,

"chicken a la carte".

it is much to the point

as it illustrates quite well

how some people waste mindlessly their food

while others will barely survive on these scraps of food,

trying not to be vanquished by hunger

& retain their spirit.

the contrast is simply obscene.

& given the demographic boom on this planet

as opposed to the depletion of ressources

through mismanagement & selfishness,

one can only be horrified

at the long term consequences.

& this day will come,

unless we make a collective choice

to take what is only proper

rather than indulging ourselves outrageously

& wasting plenty.

think about it!
